Back for another post here on ZeekrGeek!
Tomorrow morning we are leaving for Melbourne, so the great prep begins tonight. The car has been loaded up, the trip has been scheduled and the charge limit has been removed for the overnight charge.
Come 7:30am tomorrow morning the Zeekr 7X should be ready to go, as we travel from Adelaide all the way to Ballarat with one charge stop at Bordertown. I’m not yet sure if we will be using the Tesla V4 Superchargers or the Bordertown Wildlife Park chargers yet, we will see on the day which is busier.
I will be adding updates to this post as we progress throughout the trip, so stay tuned!
Update 1
We have made it to Ballarat! What a long day of driving it has been! A cold, wet and miserable day wasn’t enough to stop us though. We had to stop in at Keith Bakery and grab a snack of course, then trekked on to complete our first charge of the trip in Bordertown, met a few nice people at the charger, then went on our way.
Many hours later we made it to Ballarat, charged up to 80% then up to a full 100% in the morning!
Both visits we came across Zeekr 7X’s taking advantage of the 350kW Evie Chargers.
Update 2
Forgot to update yesterday 🫣 but what a great day it was! We made it over to Melbourne, sorted out the hotel and parked up the Zeekr in a nice safe spot.
Then we headed on over the DFO’s on South Wharf to kill some time and eventually the time finally came to go watch the Adelaide Thunderbirds WIN their grand final!!
So an absolutely massive congratulations to them!!! It made the entire trip so much more worth it!!
The next day we were up pretty early, we had left the hotel at 7am and started our trek back to Adelaide. What a long drive!! Charged up at the Ballarat Evie charger again and then this time we discovered that Bordertown was down for maintenance, so we pushed through all the way to Tailem Bend Evie chargers where we took advantage of the high wattage chargers there.
All in all, it was a great trip, but I definitely won’t be rushing back into a full day of driving like that again!!
One thing I must mention and will probably do a proper post on it later is that the Adaptive cruise control works great however on steep sudden inclines it can phantom break and is super scary when it happens as it catches you completely off guard and absolutely risks you getting rear ended if someone behind you isn’t paying attention.
Another is for the LCC (Lane centering version of adaptive cruise) and LCC lane changing works great, surprisingly well BUT I am pretty sure it was trying to kill me. Many occasions it would try to be as close as possible to the right line of the lane which is where oncoming trucks are passing by at 110km/h. A little too close for comfort in my opinion, so my advice is to not use it when there is no gap between yourself and oncoming traffic.
