I am stoked to announce that I have finally taken delivery of my new Zeekr 7X Performance! I have nothing but good things to say about this EV so far – it is an absolute dream to drive.
For my build, I went with the Tech Grey exterior and the Black Nappa Leather interior. To be honest, I was initially worried I’d made too “safe” of a choice, but seeing it in person? It looks absolutely magnificent.
I’m not normally a massive road-tripping person, but the delivery timing aligned perfectly for a few last-minute trips. We’ve already taken a run up to Quorn, and we’re gearing up for a massive drive from Adelaide to Melbourne this Friday.
On our first leg, I did my very first EV fast charge in Wilmington, and I was genuinely surprised by how quick it was. We made a quick pit stop to use the toilets and grabbed a drink from the vending machines across the road – by the time we walked back, the car was already done! It was a seamless charging experience.
After spending some time behind the wheel, here is my honest take on the Zeekr 7X tech and safety features so far:
- Lane Centering & Cruise Control: The lane centering software really wants the car dead center of the lane at all times. It doesn’t allow you to hug the inside or outside when cornering, making tighter bends feel a bit gut-wrenching. However, standard adaptive cruise control handles them with zero issues.
- Persistent Safety Settings: I am incredibly pleased to discover that the car remembers your safety preferences. You don’t have to constantly turn off the intrusive alerts every single time you turn on the car.
- Infotainment & Apps: Apple CarPlay works immediately and flawlessly. We also set up the standalone Waze and Apple Music apps directly on the Zeekr system. Strangely, the system locked us out of using the standalone Waze or Apple Music while driving. It feels a bit odd, so hopefully, an over-the-air (OTA) update fixes this soon.
Everyone I’ve shown the car to so far has been absolutely gobsmacked by the build quality and how premium it feels.
I’ve already managed to install all the accessories I ordered. If you’re picking one up, here are my top recommendations:
- The Boot Light (Must-Have): Super handy for lighting up the entire cargo space at night.
- Metal Door Speaker Covers: The original factory covers are felt and look like they’ll mark up easily from shoes. The aftermarket metal covers look great and add some much-needed protection.
As for charging at home, the Zeekr home charger I had installed worked immediately with zero issues. I’ll likely do a dedicated post soon breaking down how the home charger works and what you can do inside the app.
This weekend’s itinerary is packed. We’re leaving Adelaide on Friday, heading to Ballarat to stay overnight, and then finishing the drive into Melbourne first thing Saturday morning.
We plan to hit up the DFOs for some shopping before heading to the stadium to watch the Adelaide Thunderbirds play in the Grand Final that evening! Then, it’s a long drive straight back from Melbourne to Adelaide on Sunday.
By my estimations, the entire trip’s charging costs should sit around $80 to $100. Compare that to the $1,200 it would have cost to fly at such short notice, The Zeekr will win every time!
